pounds. The treadmill running machine provides the opportunity for anyone to run whenever they have a few
spare minutes in the day.
If you have a treadmill you do not have to wait for the weather to clear up or worry about
traffic, you can run in the climate controlled environment of your home watching your favorite television

One of the biggest problems faced by people who
try to get their exercise outdoors is the weather. While some areas get plenty of sunshine,
the odds of getting enough good weather to go running outside all year are very
slim.
A perfect example of this might be the dead of winter when there is snow on the
ground and the temperature is below freezing, very few people are dedicated enough to even
think about go out for a run. On the other hand if you had a treadmill running machine in your home you could
run every day of the year regardless of the weather.

The Health Club Alternative
Of course you could spend the money to join a health club, but this also tends to bring a
different set of problems to the table. First and foremost at least half of the people who spend the money to
join a health club and pay the monthly fee never go. This is a sad fact, but nonetheless it seems that just
as many pay the fees and never end up going. For a plethora of reasons far too many people join a health
club, go for the first couple of months and then gradually stop going, even though they must still pay the
fees.
There are many reasons why people stop going, but for most it is simply a matter of time, it
starts off as "well I cannot make the time today, maybe I will go tomorrow or next week" and eventually they
just quit trying at all. Others use their family as an excuse with "I have no one to watch the kids" or "It
is too much work to get the kids ready to go" for an excuse. If you have a treadmill at home you never have
to worry about going out to that expensive health club. Typically a few months worth of health club payments
will more than pay for a decent treadmill.
Like a Hamster in Cage
For many people the thought of running or walking on a treadmill is something that they liken to
watching a hamster running on his little wheel in a cage. However once they actually have a treadmill running machine in their home they find themselves wondering how
they ever managed to get by without one. It can take a lot of time and effort to go outside of the house and
run, the number of excuses not to bother can quickly overcome the desire to do so. When you have a treadmill
right there in your home, you can run no matter what the weather is or who is watching your kids.
The treadmills that you can buy today are far more than just a belt that is turned by a motor to
run on. The surface under the belt is cushioned to take out the impact of running such as you might encounter
running on the streets. This is far better for you joints and there are no potholes waiting to sprain or
break an ankle.
Thanks to state of the art technology modern treadmills can be programmed to simulate running
uphill and vary in speeds to provide any kind of running or walking workout you desire. This way you can vary
your workout from a nice steady jog to a full out run complete with warm up and cool down periods to get the
most out of every minute you spend on the treadmill.
What to Look for in a Treadmill Machine
When you have made the decision that it is time to go ahead a buy a treadmill running
machine there are several factors that you should take into account to make sure that you get
the best machine you can for the money you have to spend. Of course before you can do this you need to decide
how much money you have to spend, only then can you begin to seriously look the various treadmills to find
the right one for you.
The next thing you need to consider is how much space you have in the room you plan to use, most
modern treadmills fold up but they still take up space and you have to have room to lower the platform to use
it. Lighter weight machines tend to be rather unstable when you are running on them so think about getting
one of the heavier machines for the added stability, just make sure you can still lift it up easily for
storage.
There are lots of extra features you can get such as ones that let you program in your own
exercise regimen and ones with heart rate monitors. If you really want the Rolls Royce of treadmill running
machines there are plenty with built in stereos, places to plug in your iPod and LCD televisions built in.
The more you spend the more extras you can get, but you would be far better off paying only for the features
you are going to use and getting a good heavy duty machine rather than all the bells and whistles.
