Used Treadmills - Are They Worth Buying?
Once you have made the decision to buy yourself a treadmill and get started on a program of exercise to lose weight
or get fit the next thing you have to think about is whether you should buy new or look at used treadmills. A large
part of this decision obviously has to be based on what you can afford. Obviously you will need to be able to stay
within your budget, but there are some things that you need to know before you start looking in the newspaper
trying o find a "good" used treadmill that is not going to fall apart as soon as you get it home.
Why Buy Used?
This is a loaded question if ever there was one, first we need to split it into two parts so
that we can answer them both and let you make up your own mind. Buying used treadmills comes with its own set of
problems for which you will have no recourse but to either pay for the repairs or buy another treadmill. While it
may be easy for the seller to tell you that the treadmill you are looking at has hardly been used and indeed it
might even look like that, you would be amazed at what a little cleaning can hide.
Chances are fair that if you are buying one from someone privately it may actually be true that
it has hardly been used; many people buy treadmills and then use them for a little while
before the treadmill ends up as a dust collector. If you can latch onto one of these then you may get a really good
treadmill for a good price, make sure you check it over and try it our first before you pay for it and take it home
only to find out you bought a lemon.
How About Cheap New?
In truth buying cheap new is probably not the best answer, if you were to have to make a choice
between a good used treadmill and a cheap new one you might be better off going with the used one. Most of the
cheap ones are not built very well and will most likely not stand up too well if you are serious about using your
treadmill to get your health or weight under control. If you can afford to wait a little longer and put a little
more money together there are several different brands and models in the £500 range that are more than strong
enough to do the job.
However, if you must buy used treadmills then you need to make sure you take a good look at the belt for signs of
wear and tear; this is a good indicator of how much the treadmill has been used. You can also look at the
adjustment to see how much the belt has stretched; this is another indication of how much the machine has been
used. If you are looking at machines from a health club you are going to find that they have lots of miles on them
and while they are heavier duty than the home units may not be a very good choice.
You can buy good used treadmills if you take your time and look at each one carefully. Of course
you are not going to get a warranty which in itself can be a problem if anything goes wrong. Even the cheap new
ones come with some form of warranty to protect your investment.
